It's amazing what you can find on Craigslist these days.
It’s Wednesday and I have a slightly new twist for you – instead of a completely new cartoon, I’m posting one that I made public a few weeks ago, but with what I consider to be a more adventurous caption. (Image after jump.) I’ve been trying to get my cartoons published recently, and I’ve become painfully aware of just how important proper captions can be. (Actually, the importance of solid captions became evident as soon as I started the Splendid Marbles Cartoon Caption Contest back in December of last year, and I thank everyone who participates for showing me the light.)
The new caption stems from my view of the overall economy, which has compelled many a decent soul to go to great, and often disturbing lengths in order to find employment. I think the original caption was kind of lame. This one, in my opinion, explains my opinion much more clearly.
I’ve posted the same cartoon below with the original caption. Please tell me which one you think is better, or feel free to leave one of your own.

Was it worth changing the caption? (I certainly think it was!)
BY THE WAY, THIS IS NOT THE CAPTION CONTEST, BUT FEEL FREE TO POST A FEW CAPTIONS, OR JUST SHARE A THOUGHT OR TWO.

Thanks, Ken. I have a question: do you consider this cartoon, and some of my other cartoons that are like it to be too “out there,” or too “twisted”? (I’ve gotten some positive feedback from people, both on and off-line, but they usually follow up with “man, you’re out there!”)
I think they’re both revolting. The drawing is bad enough, but the comments make them even worse – if that’s possible. You need help.
I’m sorry you feel that way, Libby. But I am finding it tough to find full-time employment, and I think the next step could be people renting – or selling – themselves out as pets (through the lens of a cartoonist with a host of issues, mind you.)
Please don’t stop visiting my site – I really enjoy your comments.
I like the second one a bit better. The mention of CL right now might not go over as well.I think the cartoon alone is quite funny.
Heck yah, their only $39.99 right now at Walmart.
It took about two weeks but I finally got him potty trained.
Lighten up Libby. Nobody wants to be around you when you’re like that.
The craigslist one is hilarious.
I like the new one better. If you weren’t as “out there” or as “twisted” my husband and I would not be enjoying your cartoons as much as we do. If someone thinks your drawings are “bad” and that your “comments make them even worse”, then why are taking the time to visit your site? It’s like the mom who’s little kid is being “forced” to watch trash TV while she stands there complaining about what the kid is watching. If she’s not turning it off, then SHE must really like it!
Thanks, Lisa. I really think that we, as a society, avoid looking at what is actually happening to us as individuals. That’s what I love about creating these cartoons – they are blunt, comic instruments that make you think, as well as laugh (I hope). Anyway, thanks to you and your husband for the support; it really is important to me.
I like both too
As a Craigslist devotee, I adore the new caption. I just found your site today and will be a frequent visitor – love it!
