Why doesn't he just get with the program?
New cartoon: alert the media! No really, this one’s pretty damn funny. On second thought, screw the media; what have they done for us lately? (Image after jump.) I pulled this one out of my file of very strange things, also known as “works in progress,” last night, added outlines and an ink wash, then scanned it in to present to you today.
As for the basis of this cartoon, not much needs to be said. After roaming the streets of a tightly packed urban area over the past few years, I find it quite easy to visualize a professional, well-heeled couple together in a therapy session, jamming acid-laced thoughts into their PDAs instead of actually talking to each other. And, I am not singling out maturing yuppie couples (aren’t they called DINKS?). I see people walking through traffic while texting; I almost ran over a woman on the street last week with my bike because she was focused so intensely on sending what I am sure was another message that could wait. I would also like to say that I have nothing against text messaging; I use the service regularly. I do, however, have a problem with silly people who use this mode of communication at the most ridiculous times.

YOU must remember to put down the toilet seat!!
“Can you hear me now??!!” (I like this cartoon; it’s not as morbid as your other ones – and it’s funny.)
I think i’ve seen this somewhere beforeā¦but it’s not bad at all
“I’m going back to selling subprime loans!!”
Just because you’re not actually talking doesn’t mean I don’t actually get paid!
Thanks for the captions, folks. I considered running it without one attached, but I thought it seemed a bit naked. What do you all think?
Great job on both the cartoon and the caption!
THIS IS NOT A CAPTION
I just don’t see what is happening in this particular comic. Is it two patients and a shrink? Is she texting? The old eyes aren’t what they used to be.
Sometimes when I see one of your drawings an idea pops right into my head, but sometimes I have to think about it. But regardless of which it is, I always read all the captions first. First of all, I really enjoy reading them. Second, I like to make sure that I’m not about to repeat something that someone else has already submitted. And third, sometimes reading the captions gives me an idea for a different caption. So I vote that you add a caption to your drawings whenever possible!
And if you think the silent treatment is less expensive, you are mistaken!
Hi Peter,
Yes, it’s supposed to be two patients – a couple – and their shrink. (Next time I’ll add a few more visual clues to avoid confusion.)
“Don’t bother when I’m composing a textamonial!”
