Roger Sayre needs five gallon buckets in order to complete a functional sculpture; one that could serve as a prototype for homeless shelters in our dysfunctional, disposable society. If you have any, or know of a hidden treasure of buckets out there, please let him know. The logical places to check include: construction sites, restaurants, recycling stations, municipal buildings, and the basements and storage sheds of neighborhood serial killers. If you come across any in your daily travels, please give Roger a call, or send him an email- he needs them right now!

I appropriate images from political advertisements, campaign flyers, and mailings to create digital prints with glitter. I use glitter to obscure and disguise certain features of the images to expose a tension between adoration and mystery.

That is art-making
This purely vain yet crucial endeavour
Is one that I am thankful for
May my hands be cut off
And my vision impaired
The day that I should take it for granted

Artist Statement
My recent work involves the reclaiming disposable objects in mass to create two and three dimensional works. Pieces can involve tea bags, matchbook strikes, plastic cutlery, etc. These items are generally disregarded and ignored by the everyday person. Through the gathering of the discards of contemporary culture, I ask the viewer to reconsider the function and value of these objects. I also reassign their value by re-contextualizing them by creating a piece of art from them. Besides utilizing the formal issues that interest me, based in the Minimalist school, I also am making a commentary on the disposable nature of contemporary culture.- David Poppie
